This spring, as the Northern Hemisphere brightens with light in the sky, life on earth changes: flowers burst into bloom and animals awaken from hibernation. Change is in the air. It called to me this morning asking me to do something differently so I made the decision to move my body and go for an early morning walk along the water. 

I reflected with gratitude, I’ve had some incredible experiences over the years that have changed my life – from sailing under the night-sky in the open ocean, to traveling to Antarctica to observe humpback whales, to touring the nature reserve of Cape of Good Hope, all of which led me to starting Matria Coalition, where I’m inspired everyday by the multidimensional women I get to witness and support on their journeys. I have changed, and my life has changed, because of each of these experiences. 

So why am I left with this feeling that somehow, as life-changing as these sparkly globe-trotting moments were, these moments are no more special than any other in my life?

Well something dawned on me on what became a life-affirming walk: everything we do changes our lives; everything we choose to do each day creates an outcome that impacts the trajectory of our lives. 

Just as life changes on earth in response to sunlight and rain, each small action we take either nurtures the seed of our intention, or moves us further from our authenticity. Every step we take, no matter how small, has life-changing effects.

The Compound Effect: Why Small Choices Matter

“The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy explores the exceptional impact and huge rewards created from small choices. Hardy illustrates how consistent, small actions taken over time can lead to significant results and success, emphasizing the power of incremental progress in achieving one's goals. It was one of the first personal growth books that really struck a chord with me, and I highly recommend it if you want to get nerdy with me on the science of how one small life-changing choice every day for one month can create huge waves of success!

Life-Changing Moments in Mundane Actions

So as we enter into the first official month of spring, I have an invitation for you:

Walk into this month knowing how life-changing it can be. You can change your life by choosing to hug your partner a little bit longer than yesterday everyday for a month. You can change your life by choosing to read 2 pages of a book every night for one month. You can change your life by smiling at strangers on the street for just one month.
