Negotiating for Women in Corporate

The Confidence Gap: Why Women Hesitate in Negotiations

Learning from client breakthroughs this February…

Katy negotiated 2.5X her consulting rate:

  • Through my 1:1 Becoming Matria program, Katy rewrote an innocuous-sounding limiting belief from “I get paid to work hard” to “My perspective is valuable and in demand.” Hard work is not the problem. Undervaluing your work with a low hourly rate is.

  • This foundational shift enabled her to price her consulting services 2.5X higher than her original estimate. Spoiler: the client immediately said yes!

Jennifer landed her ideal job with a 10% salary increase

  • After successfully freelancing for over 2 years, Jennifer desired a return to full-time work. By early February, she had an offer in hand – but felt pressured to give an answer before seeing another interview process through. Through a quick coaching session, she had a clear game-plan.

  • When the offer she really wanted came in low, we again discussed her options.

  • The result? She landed the job she truly wanted AND negotiated a 10% salary increase. Jennifer Starts her ideal job this week.

Both Katy & Jennifer came to me ready to ask for less and hesitate to negotiate. I’ll share with you what I shared with them: the way you show up in your offer negotiation is how you show up in your role.

Tactical Strategies: Scripts for Effective Negotiation

Here are 3 tips for your next negotiation:

  • Do your research - know the market and gather data to back up your numbers

  • Hold your ground - know your floor and be ready to walk away when you’re not being valued

  • Know what’s important to the other side - this gives you leverage and allows you to approach the negotiate creatively, getting both parties what they want
